why is it that most nigerian parents , especially the igbo ones refuse to teach their children igbo , when i asked some of my uncles and auntys they said its because " they don't want their children to have accents" , what is that suopposed to mean ? THEN when they see children like infants to teenhers speaking the language they are amazed and i always hear "i wish " responses , why is that i really dont get it ?

I speak Igbo fluently ... but I don't have an accent ... I think its wrong that they'll abandon our language and traditions ... cos other tribes be teaching their kids stuff str8t from the womb tho ... I already made up ma mind ma kids gon do High school in Naija ... ( depending on how things are there as at that time ) ...

Me too. I speak igbo fluently. I tend to mess up here and there but other than that I'm good in my language. I understand what the poster says, LOL. Anytime my mom and I are in a Naija party or meeting and we start conversating in igbo. The other parents there just stare at me like i'm some kind of freak. There eyes goes like this . LOL. Most of them even try to talk to me in english knowing fully well i speak igbo. But the accent thing. Uhh, i have accent and my accent is similar to Nigerian American accent. Most Nigerian children born in America whose parents didn't each igbo still have accent; hell some of them, there's is worse than mine. I have an accent but my is so little according to people that you can barely hear it unless you are listening too deep.
