At about 20:59pm yesterday evening ,a couple of friends and I drove into Ikeja Shopping Mall to get something to eat. As a newbie in the area , It's normal to observe and take note of a lot of things.
The signage at the entry post of the parking lot indicated the allowed parking durations and respective prices and for durations between 0 to 45mins, parking is free. A ticket was obtained from the parking attendant and we headed straight for Chicken Republic where we
obtained takeaway packs because we wanted to get home early to watch footie. Upon getting to the exit , the attendant requested for the ticket and this was handed over to him. He gave it a quick glance and the following dialogue ensued :
Attendant - Go around and pay N100 at the kiosk over there
Friend - Why do I need to pay N100, I got in here at 20:59pm ( as seen on my ticket) and it's just 21:15pm so I have spent less than 30mins.
Attendant : There is a flat charge of N100 for every vehicle that gets in here after 8:00pm
Friend - Why is that not indicated on the signage indicating parking fees upon entry.
Attendant - No response
Well, we went over to the parking kiosk and handed over the ticket to the lady on duty who requested for the ticket and collected the state sum of N100
from us without providing a receipt. It was also not indicated on the ticket. When we queried , she bluntly sated that we were getting no receipt
I do not know if the management of Ikeja City Mall is aware if this or whether this was masterminded by the parking attendants but I think it is wrong. If a parking fee or fine is paid then a receipt should be issued to that effect. That's the only Nigerians know that they have not been scammed. We actually think it's a fraud and that the N100 collected per vehicle is going into certain pockets . Not right.
