Former House of Representatives Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, Monday confirmed that he had been handed the gubernatorial ticket of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun State.
Bankole, who addressed his teeming supporters and loyalists at a private hotel in Abeokuta, said the development was inevitable following the controversy that greeted the governorship primaries of his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former speaker’s ambition to contest the February governorship election on the platform of PDP had suffered a setback as the party leadership picked former Group Managing Director of Gateway Holdings Limited, Prince Gboyega Isiaka.
”It’s true that I was offered senatorial ticket in the PDP. But I could not accept it because my supporters did not ask me to contest for Senate. I needed to consult them first before taking any decision,” he told a gathering of his supporters.
