Former Benue state governor Gabriel Suswam has been arrested by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom for allegedly battering his wife. After his arrest, the Metropolitan Police Domestic Violence Office immediately booked him into its London detention centre, where he was to remain in detention. The resident judge at the time however set a £5,000 (N1.5 m) bail bound for him before he was released. He got arrested when his wife, Yemisi placed an emergency call to the police from their house in London to report that the ex- governor had physically assaulted her. She explained to the police that during a minor argument in which she confronted her husband's questionable relationship with possible mistress ‘Shidoo’, Suswam battered her and thus made her to run for her life. If found guilty, the ex-governor could be jailed for about six months in the UK under the Persons Act of 1861. Allegedly, Shidoo is beginning to become more relevant in the life of the ex-governor and as a result, Suswam, who is fond of attacking his wife, attacked her more times than usual. A close family source is now also revealing that Suswah had always told Yemisi he would one day, legally marry Shidoo. Reports say that the ex-governor sought refuge in the UK after he had ruled Benue state for eight years, in order to bar the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), from accessing him. So he ran from the EFCC here in Nigeria to be arrested by UK Police Agency.

I think that the best development aid that the Western countries can give to developing countries is the rejection of their former leaders as long term residents in their country. Imagine, he just abandoned his state immediately after May 29 to enjoy in an already developed country. Very sad!

I don't support Suswan beating his wife but if you know Yemisi as I do, she can push her husband to the wall. She is very stubbon, a thug really. May God safe this marriage.
