Singer-songwriter, harmonica player, and businessman, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo (D’Banj) won the maiden MAMA Evolution awards and dedicated the prestigious prize to his former business partner and producer, Don Jazzy, who is the boss of Mavin Records. The Evolution category is meant for established artistes who have made a huge impact on the African music scene, taken African music to new heights around the world and pushed the boundaries of creativity. D’Banj beat fellow Nigerian representatives Asa, Psquare and 2face to the awards.
Recall the partnership between D’Banj and Don Jazzy ended on a sour note in 2012 and since then they have not had any music collaborations together. Shortly after receiving his MAMA Evolution award, D’banj took to Instagram with a beautiful message:
Me and my brother.. I remember 11 years ago , you Wanted me to be .. ” youngest Living AFrIcan Legend ” and I wanted you to be ” ” Biggest AFrIcan Producer ” .. We Did it Bro.. Dreams do Come true.
