This comes in the wake of the Lagos State Government declaration not to back down from the case between the actress and her husband. The Lagos State Government is demanding that the Nigerian Police forward the duplicate of the case file on the alleged assault on Mercy Aigbe by her husband, Lanre Gentry. This comes in the wake of the Lagos State Government declaration not to back down from the case between the actress and her husband.

The State Government in a letter written through the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP, May 22, 2017, indicated its interest in prosecuting the alleged case of assault. It was learned that aside from writing to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos Mainland Local Government, DPP also copied other relevant agencies, to alert them of its plan.

The State Government argued that the assault contravenes sections 171, 243 and 244 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The Coordinator of the State Domestic and segxwal Violence Response Team, DSVRT, Mrs. Titilola Vivour- Adeniyi, explained that if anyone is beaten or suffered abused, the State is also being abused, noting, we must begin to renew our mindsets and treat Domestic Violence for what it is; a crime against the State. Gentry has since been arrested, arraigned and remanded in jail for the charge of domestic violence.
One week after his arrest, he was released following the perfection of his bail conditions.

Nigeria  is a very funny country because this case in involving a high profile person of someone who can man-over her way  to the pple in authority that is why this is happening , if its a low profile  beaten and assaulted as alleged we would not hear this . iam not supporting domestic violence  in anyway  but the government should  be careful in dealing with this kind of issue , may God help the voiceless in our society

well observed, The Government seems partial, it is not actively seeking out, the less privileged, the voiceless in society, it is only moved by status, and popularity, and thank God we have social media, social media can be used to make the voiceless have a voice.

If ambode is interested in mercy, he shuld go ahead instead of all this. I did nt suport domestic violence bt nowadays ladies shuld b cautn too, nt d governmt involvn in act capabl of ecounragin them. Lets b truthful, some women dont respect their husband anymore most especialy due to circumstances wen she is d breadwiner of d family. Lagos state has bn takn sid since d onset of dis issue. If d allegation is true on wat transpire btwn pastor taiwo an wife of ambode dat led to d removal of d pastor  is a clear indicatn dat ambode shuld remove 'd wool in his eyes b4 removn d log of wood in other man's eye'.
