Man Rapes Housewife

A 22-year old man, Feso Olorogun, of no fixed addresss is currently facing trial at the Shomolu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on a five-count charge of felony, assault, rape, indecent assault and being in possession of dangerous weapons.

Olorogun was alleged to have committed the offences on 16 March, 2010, at about 11.30 p.m. around Onisemo Street, Pedro, Shomolu, Lagos.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, Mr. Adegoke Akinlabi, an Inspector of Police, are punishable under Sections 518 (6, 7), 352, 360, 367 and 357 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Count four of the charge reads: “That you, Feso Olorogun and another at large on 16 March, 2010 at about 11.30 p.m. at Onisemo Street, Pedro-Shomolu, Lagos in the Shomolu Magisterial District did threaten the complainant (name witheld), of 22, Onisemo Street, Pedro Shomolu, with dangerous weapons like gun and knife in order to submit herself for sex and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 367 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Count five of the charge reads: “That you, Feso Olorogun, on the same date, time and place at the aforementioned Magisterial District did rape the complainant (name withheld), of 22, Onisemo Street, Pedro Shomolu, Lagos, without her consent and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 357 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused who was arraigned on 26 March, 2010 pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge and was granted bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum by Mrs. B. O. Osunsanmi, the magistrate of the court.

The magistrate also ordered that the sureties must show evidence of payment of tax to the Lagos State government, as well as have their addresses verified by the court.

The case has been adjourned till 26 April, 2010.

The rape victim told P.M.News after the court session that she was on a visit to her sibiling at the said address when the accused accosted her, tore her bra, pant and raped her.

“On that day I came to visit my sibling, I arrived late because of the traffic. I was about to see some of my friends in the area when he attacked me and threatened to kill me if I did not cooperate. He then raped me,” she narrated.
