The Yobe State Government has shut the Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi indefinitely following last week’s Boko Haram attack that left 110 girls unaccounted for.
The State Commissioner of Education, Mohammed Lamin, made this known in a Monday statement circulated to journalists in the state capital, Damaturu.
He said, “The government girls school in Dapchi has not reopened. It’s not feasible to reopen the school in the current situation.
“We still have over 100 girls that are unaccounted for. The other girls that were found are not in the right frame of mind to return to school. They are still in trauma.”
One of the students of the school who escaped the attack, Faiza Mohammed said last week that she would only return to school if the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai personally manned the gate, The Nation reported.
Lamin demanded tighter security for the school and others in the state.
He maintained that the school would be closed “for a while, until the situation normalises and the girls are psychologically prepared to resume.”
