There’s a good reason women look for healthy mates when looking to get married. While some say all babies look adorable, some just look more robust and healthier than the others. Now, current research tells us exactly why.

Not only are infants who resemble their fathers likely to be healthier when they reach their first birthday, they are also likely to spend more time with them, suggests the study.
The study published in the Journal of Health Economics revealed that this was true for fathers who spend an average of 2.5 or more days with their kids than fathers who didn’t.

“Fathers are important in raising a child, and it manifests itself in the health of the child,”said one of the researchers Solomon Polachek, Professor at the Binghamton University in New York.
“Those fathers that perceive the bay’s resemblance to them are more certain the baby is theirs, and thus spend more time with the baby”, Polachek added.
“We find a child’s health indicators improve when the child looks like the father…The main explanation is that frequent father visits allow for greater parental time for care giving and supervision, and for information gathering about child health and economic needs,”
Polachek said.

Hopefully, research such as these can encourage absent fathers to spend more time with their babies.
