A 45-year-old housewife, Edosa Tina, yesterday, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing the sum of N5.5m and forging a death certificate. Tina was arraigned alongside her brother-in-law, Kingsley Osarogiagbon on a threecount charge of conspiracy, stealing and forgery. The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Peter Nwangwu, the accused persons committed the offences between August 29, 2015 and September 8, 2015 at No. 334, Super, Agege Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. Nwangwu said that the defendants forged the death certificate of Edosa Osarogiagbon, Tina’s late husband.
The prosecutor added: “The case was reported to the police by Mrs Rachael Igbinekewa, one of the three wives of the late Edosa against the two defendants. Tina, who is also a wife to the deceased, connived and obtained a letter of administration from the Ministry of Justice with a forged death certificate of the deceased. The accused stole N5.5million from the deceased’s benefits and converted it to their own personal use. All efforts made by the complainant for the accused to refund the money proved abortive.”
The offences contravened Sections 287,365 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Afunwa granted the defendants bail in the sum of N850, 000 each with two sureties in like sum. She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed, with an evidence of two years of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
