An Edo Man identified as Orobosa, has been accused of stabbing a tenant to death over the use of bathroom, an incident which occurred at Ekiosa Street, in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
While the Edo man has been arrested, it was gathered that deceased, Okereke Chinonso, who was stabbed to death over use of the bathroom in the building located around the Second-East Circular Road in Benin, was defending his wife.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect had told the wife of the late tenant, Martha, to take her bath in one of the bathrooms with a faulty door. However when he got confronted by the deceased, he allegedly hit the victim in the head with a wooden object and later stabbed him.
Youths in the area who made moves to set the building on fire after the deceased who was taken to the hospital in a wheel barrow was declared dead, were however prevented from carrying out the act by the police.
An eyewitness who spoke to Punch’s correspondent, said that the suspect was a Libya returnee.
“But the woman (Martha) decided to use the other bathroom because his (deceased) landlord had yet to fix theirs and, as I speak, they do not even have a toilet,” the source added.
It was further gathered that the suspect who was also the caretaker, chased her husband into their apartment and stabbed him repeatedly with a knife.
Martha explained, “He (suspect) said my husband and I should not use the bathroom again. My husband came back and saw that I had not taken my bath and went to ask the caretaker.
“But the caretaker started shouting that he had been warning my husband. As he was shouting, he used a mortar to hit my husband’s head.
“He brought out a knife and my husband ran away. But he chased my husband to our room and stabbed him in the chest.”
