The news that former governor of Oil-Rich Abia state and multi-billionaire, Orji Uzo Kalu would spend the next 12 years in jail came as a surprise to many Nigerians considering the country has never successfully jailed any politician for corruption in its history. We all thought there would be more to the act than the hastily passed judgement of 12 years imprisonment for funds embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds. Well, the surprise act is in and the former governor, Orji Uzo Kalu is a free man once again, he has been able to overturn his conviction at the supreme court, who set aside the ruling of the federal high court and ordered a retrial which we all know might never happen or would never result in another conviction even if it happens.
Nigerians are not surprised by the act considering the history of the country, the country has been built on the small political class embezzling state funds and moving it to safe haven in western countries like Switzerland, Isle of Wright and the United Kingdom where they in return get immunity and residency in those country, they eventually retired and end up living in the country where they have stashed their loots just like the immediate paste minister of petroleum, Dr. Allison Madueke Diezani.
There you have it people, Orji Uzo Kalu is officially a free man after all the billions he had stolen from the government coffers.
