The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued an alert on planned attacks on airports across the country.

The Deputy General Manager, Administration and Logistics of FAAN, S. M. Mamman wrote to the heads of security, the Cable reports.

The document dated April 9, 2021, listed the airports in Kaduna, Maiduguri, Sokoto, Kano, Abuja, and Lagos as the targets.

“I am directed to convey an alert from the Ministry of Aviation regarding security threats by criminal elements against Airports in Nigeria and to request for the immediate enumeration of necessary countermeasures for the protection of Airports/Facilities under your purview,” it reads.

FAAN advised the management of the facilities to operate at “a heightened threat level”.

They were directed to submit a list of existing and additional countermeasures to address the threats, along with their cost implications.

FAAN further told them to convene an emergency meeting of airport security committees.

The parley will review the status of airport security, recommend appropriate measures and share responsibility for effective implementation.

On March 6, bandits breached the fence of the Kaduna Airport Staff Quarters in Ifira and kidnapped 10 persons.

On March 17, the Kaduna State Government announced that Nigerian Army troops had rescued them.

And what joy or pride would that bring you if it is attacked. We criticized the government for lackluster performance but we as ordinary citizens can’t protect or manage effectively the little infrastructure we enjoyed .
