No! Its not ideal. I mean, if you are going to proposed and then wait 5 more years before marrying the person then i advice that you just wait. what is the big rush if at the end of the day you still have to wait for 2,3,4,5..or whatever years before getting married to the person? If you proposed to someone and you decide to  wait for that long period of time then something is definitely wrong. it could be that you wanted to bench her and then still search around and see if there is anything better or you are broke. its as simple as that...

If the guy ends up changing his mind, i wouldnt be surprise becuz as i said, there can only be two reasons for him doing so. which are either he wants to bench you and search for another one or he is broke.

if the guy changes his mind, then the girl goes on. I mean, life still goes on. what else can she do than to start all over again. As they say, every disappointment is a blessing. so count it all joy and move on with your life, hoping and praying for God to send you your own.

What she can do with the engagement ring is to sale it, end of story.
