Delta State Police Command has arrested a young man identified as Emma Eregarnoma over a failed attempt to use his mother, Mrs. Oke Eregarnoma, for an alleged money ritual in Okuokoko town in Okpe Local government area of the state.
PUNCH reports that his mother, who is currently on a hospital bed where she was recuperating, recalled that before the attack, her son boasted that he “must drive GLK this week”.
Mrs. Eregarnoma said that her son invited her to his house on Caroline Street, Okuokoko, having intimated her that he had a surprise package for her.
When she arrived at his apartment, she said she saw him in an unusual joyous mood pretending to be happy and excited to see her for the supposed surprise package.
The young man was said to have increased the volume of his musical gadgets and suddenly locked the door before attempting to strangle his mother to death while trying to pluck off her eyes.
The woman said she screamed for help, but no one heard her due to the loud music. She reportedly struggled with her son until she escaped and ran outside for help.
Neighbours who heard the alarm that she raised at this point, came to her rescue and apprehended her son, who was beaten mercilessly before being handed over to the Police in Orerokpe Division.
When contacted, the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect was in custody.
Edafe said that investigation was ongoing into the incident, adding that the police would want to interview the mother to find out the true situation.
“Though he is in custody, we want to interview the mother to find out the true situation,” Edafe said, adding that she could not confirm if Emma wanted to kill his mother for money ritual.
