Nigerians have been urged to resist selling their votes or risk losing their future to corrupt politicians.
An American-based chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Dr. Nomate Toate Kpea gave the advice at a political enlightenment rally organised by the National Youth Vanguard for Grassroots Mobilisation (NYVGM) in Port Harcourt. Dr. Kpea frowned at Nigerians who sell their votes for a token reminding them that they risked suffering till the end of such administration and called for a reverse.

In his reasoning, those who sell their votes indirectly mortgage their future and become slaves to selfish politicians.
“If we don’t fight now to throw the bad leaders out, our ancestors will not forgive us. Don’t sell your votes and sell your future for a token because if you do, you will suffer as long as the administration lasts.
“We don’t need leaders who will give us money, drinks and guns to kill our brothers; but a new breed of leaders that would improve our lot in life.”

The foreign-based politician who is likely to declare his political ambition soon, urged Nigerians to start preaching change from the grassroots.
“Obama in the US preached change and he won. You also should take change into action, tell your brothers that those people that have been putting us into slavery should be put out of office and the new breed that are people oriented be installed.”
Dr. Kpea faulted the nation’s golden jubilee due to lack of changes in the oil rich nation. He urged Nigerians to ensure they vote and protect their votes during the 2011 polls.

Speaking also, a human rights activist, Dr. Terry Bagia, lamented the sufferings of Nigerians due to the way politicians siphoned the nation’s funds into private pockets abroad and called for a change of attitude.
“Nigeria is at the threshold of change. The era of change is imminent, we all (Nigerians) need to follow the change.”

If the parties produce credible candidates, then you will be sure Nigerians would guard their votes..........but if we are faced with candidates that are corrupt and with questionable characters, then anything can happen!
