There was mild drama, yesterday, at the Presidential lounge of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, as Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s supporters, under the aegis of Turaki Vanguard, were driven out of the car park of the presidential lounge before the arrival of President Goodluck Jonathan aboard presidential jet marked number NAF 001 at about 6.10p.m.
The President was received by his teeming supporters who besieged the expansive presidential wing turning the lounge into a carnival with intense drumming and dancing.
Meanwhile, supporters of the former Vice President, Alhaji Abubakar, mainly young man and women wearing white T-shirt with the inscription The New Face of Hope, Turaki Vanguard, were asked to leave the car park as they did not have approval to gather at the facility.
According to a source, officials of the State Security Services, SSS, and a female liasion officer of the Bayelsa State Government ordered the Atiku supporters to leave the VIP lounge as they had no business being around because the President was expected at the lounge.
After some minutes of argument with the SSS officials, the leader of the Atiku group buckled under pressure and vacated the lounge with their drums, sticks and trumpet hanging in their hands.
The female Bayelsa liasion official ordered security officials on ground to impress it on the Atiku group to remove the bus parked at the car park.
Apparently anxious over their safety, the grudgingly sauntered towards the new domestic terminal.
The president was received by the national security adviser, General Andrew Owoeye Azazi, the Lagos State commissioner of police, Marvel Akpoyibo, and chief Ebitimi Banigo, who is chairman of the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Jonathan dressed in Lilac brocade agbada attire acknowledged cheers from the litany of persons that lined the red carpet to welcome him, giving the Igbo community members backhand shake, even as the Arewa Womens Forum as well as the Ijaw Peoples community were also on hand to give the president a rousy welcome.
Shortly, after he exchanged pleasantries with the scores of persons that came to welcome him, the president boarded a waiting Nigeria Air Force helicopter that flew him to town.
According to sources, the president is in Lagos as part of the political meetings to actualize his re_ election campaign.
