With only 16 days left until the presidential election, the leader of Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-cultural organization, has been warned against causing harm to Nigeria’s unity over his endorsement of Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) as his preferred candidate.

Adebanjo had warned that the country may break apart if the electorate does not vote for Obi during the election. He also warned that Nigerians should prepare for war, alleging that some forces were trying to prevent Obi from winning and vote for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) instead.

Adebanjo stated that Obi was leading the effort to free Nigeria from oppression and claimed there was a plot to ensure that another northern candidate succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, former Senator Shehu Sani from Kaduna Central criticized Adebanjo’s threat, saying it was not appropriate for an elder statesman. In a tweet, Sani wrote, “Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the respected elder statesman, has the right to support his preferred presidential candidate, but threatening the breakup of our country if his candidate is not elected is not becoming of him. I don’t think even his candidate would agree with this.

It is important to know how to present your thoughts to the world even if it is the truth.
