Juventus have been kicked out of European competitions in the forthcoming season by UEFA for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
The Turin giants had been under investigation for financial irregularities and breach of UEFA’s regulatory framework, and the investigation headed by the CFCB has now concluded that the club will not be allowed to compete in the UEFA Europa Conference League during the upcoming season. Juventus’ breaches relate to player registration rights between 2019 and 2021.
Asides from being banned from European competitions by UEFA, Juventus were also handed a £17.1 million fine. The Italian outfit will only have to pay half of that figure as long as comply with UEFA guidelines for the next three campaigns.
Announcing the decision, UEFA said in a statement shared on its website;
“The CFCB First Chamber concluded that Juventus (ITA) violated the UEFA’s regulatory framework and breached the settlement agreement signed in August 2022. As a result, the CFCB First Chamber terminated the settlement agreement concluded with the club and decided:
“To exclude Juventus from the 2023/24 UEFA men’s club competition; and to impose an additional financial contribution of €20m on the club. Of this amount, €10m is conditional and will only be enforced if the club’s annual financial statements for the financial years 2023, 2024, and 2025 do not comply with the accounting requirements as defined in Annex G of the UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Sustainability Regulations.”
Juventus received a 10-point deduction in the 2022-23 Serie A season after being found guilty of violating some rules by the Italian FA appeals court (Corte d’Appello). With the points deducted, Juventus finished seventh in the league and qualified for the UEFA Conference League.
However, following the ban, Fiorentina will take the spot of the Bianconeri and will play in the same tournament they lost the final to West Ham on June 7.
