Suspected political thugs have stormed the Ihiala High Court II, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, making away with valuable documents belonging to the court, during the hearing of a case involving Dr. Andy Uba and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The suspected thugs, who marched into the court premises chanting obscene songs, made a beeline for the court filing rooms and removed over 20 case files. The fearsome group equally cleaned out documents and personal effects found on the judge’s table, including his quarterly returns that he was supposed to send to Abuja, the key to the filing room and case lists from 2009 till date.

Speaking with Daily Sun in his office, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nnewi branch, Chief Emmanuel E. Egbunonu, stated that the thugs besieged the court when the court was about to hear Suit No. A/3/2011, involving a former governor of Anambra State, Dr. Andy Uba and four others VS Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and two others. Egbunonu further lamented that even though the presiding judge, Justice Amechina, sent out a distress call to the DPO in charge of the zone, the thugs who were more than 15 in number still defied police presence to carry out their nefarious act.

“The way I see it, they were political thugs. They came into the court because of a certain suit involving Andy Uba and four others as applicant’s VS PDP and two others as respondents. Now, I fear for the life of the judge,” said the NBA chairman.

He alleged that the police did not challenge the invaders and that the police even ordered the release of one of the attackers who was held by a courageous staff of the court during the invasion. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, said the case was still under investigation.
