In a significant breakthrough, the Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended two suspected armed robbers accused of terrorizing the Ekye Development Area in Doma Local Government Area. The operation, conducted on Thursday night, followed complaints from concerned residents about recurring armed robberies in the area.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the suspects, identified as Abdullahi Basso and Saidu Isah, were arrested following diligent efforts by operatives attached to the Ekye Division.
The arrests came after residents reported weekly armed robberies, typically occurring on Thursday nights, along the Doma-Rukubi Road in the Ekye community. The suspects, reportedly clad in military uniforms, would ambush unsuspecting road users along the route.
The statement revealed that a successful ambush was laid by police operatives at Kwanar Kare, a notorious spot along the Doma-Rukubi Road where armed robbers frequently block the road. Abdullahi Basso and Saidu Isah, both residents of Rugan Maigari in Rukubi village, were apprehended at the scene as they prepared to carry out their criminal activities.
During the arrest, law enforcement officers recovered exhibits including three hundred thousand naira in cash, a knife, and other incriminating items from the suspects.
The suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in a previous robbery incident where they attacked a victim, identified as Mallam Barka, and dispossessed him of five hundred thousand naira.
The swift action by the Nasarawa State Police Command underscores its commitment to maintaining law and order in the state, as well as its dedication to ensuring the safety and security of residents. The apprehension of the alleged armed robbers represents a significant victory in the ongoing fight against crime in the region.
