
The Yobe State Police Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has arrested thirty suspects for various crimes including homicide, theft, burglary, and others in Damaturu. According to the spokesperson of the command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, two of the arrested suspects, identified as 25-year-old Mohammed Garba and 22-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed, were involved in a fatal stabbing incident during a burglary.
The statement provided details of the incident, mentioning that on February 14, 2024, at about 04:18 am, a man named Haruna Mohd was fatally stabbed with a sharp object on his abdomen while attempting to apprehend a fleeing culprit who had broken into a house and stolen cellphones and other valuable items.
Following an increase in complaints from residents regarding burglary and theft incidents, the command, along with sister security agencies, intensified raids and patrols of criminal hideouts, leading to the arrest of the culprits responsible for the homicide, along with thirty other syndicate members.
Among the recovered exhibits were a knife and five cellphones of different makes. One of the suspects, identified as Mohd Garba A.K.A Sara Dikko, confessed to the homicide, stating that he and Ibrahim Mohd A.K.A Boy broke into a house, stole cellphones, and during their escape, he used a sharp knife to stab the victim who almost caught him.
The command expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured the community of appropriate punishment for the culprits. It emphasized the need for strategic measures to prevent future occurrences of such crimes.
Additionally, it was noted that many of the arrested culprits had previously served imprisonment terms for similar offenses. Discrete investigations have commenced for subsequent prosecution, and the command urged members of the community to support security agencies by providing useful information about any suspicious movements and criminals' hideouts.
