Renowned Nollywood actress Rita Dominic recently offered a glimpse into her early days in the film industry, revealing that she was paid a meager sum of N10,000 for her first movie role.

In an exclusive interview with Joy 99.7 FM in Ghana, the veteran actress reminisced about the challenges she faced at the outset of her career, highlighting the modest financial rewards that characterized Nollywood in its infancy.

Dominic candidly shared, "When I started acting, Nollywood wasn't lucrative, but I was driven by my passion. I just wanted to be an actor. We were just doing it for the passion. We have the passion for the art, which was what fueled us."

Reflecting on the early struggles and perseverance that defined her journey, Dominic emphasized the transformative growth of the Nigerian film industry over the years, attributing its evolution to the collective dedication of passionate individuals like herself.

"It was very challenging. But we just kept doing it until the industry got bigger and bigger. And obviously, the pay became much better," she remarked, underscoring the resilience and determination that propelled her forward.

When queried about the lowest payment she had ever received for a movie role, Dominic candidly disclosed, "The first film I did, the filmmaker paid me N35,000. But he owed me N25,000 for many months. In fact, he didn't even pay me the balance. He paid me only N10,000 [laughs]."

Dominic's revelation offers a poignant insight into the early struggles and triumphs of actors within the Nigerian film industry, highlighting the enduring passion and dedication that continue to drive its vibrant growth and global acclaim.
