Deyemi Okanlawon, a prominent figure in Nigeria's Nollywood, recently unveiled a surprising revelation about the career path he would have embraced if not for his journey into the entertainment industry.
In a candid interview with Pulse, the versatile actor, known for his dynamic roles on-screen, disclosed that his alternative calling would have led him to become a Christian cleric.
Reflecting on this hypothetical scenario, Okanlawon expressed, “I don’t think I can call it a career path, it would have been more of a calling. I think I would have been a pastor [if I wasn’t an actor].”
Dispelling misconceptions about his persona, particularly stemming from certain roles he portrayed, Okanlawon emphasized his stance against domestic violence.
Contrary to circulating rumours, he addressed one of the most absurd speculations about himself, stating, "The most ridiculous rumours I have heard about myself is that I am ‘expensive to hire.’ However, he admitted that this notion isn't entirely baseless.
Moreover, delving into his journey into the entertainment world, Okanlawon expressed his biggest regret, lamenting not commencing his acting career sooner.
When asked about his aspirations beyond the realm of cinema, the actor revealed his admiration for Hollywood stalwarts Viola Davis and Meryl Streep, expressing a desire to share meaningful conversations with these esteemed actresses.
“I didn’t come into the industry to be famous. I came to do the work, and the collateral upside of doing the work was fame. So, I quickly adapted with the understanding that it is just part of the job," he remarked, highlighting his grounded approach towards fame.
In essence, Deyemi Okanlawon's revelations provide insight into the multifaceted nature of his persona, showcasing a blend of passion, integrity, and a profound dedication to his craft beyond the glitz and glamour of stardom.
