
A somber atmosphere enveloped the busy Ore/Lagos expressway on Saturday evening as a lone accident claimed the lives of five passengers, leaving seven others with varying degrees of injuries.
The fatal incident occurred within the Akinfosile axis of Okitipupa Local Council Area of Ondo State, where a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number FKG 405 FX veered off the road and plunged into the bush.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle, which was en route from Akure, the state capital, to Lagos State, was travelling at high speed when the driver lost control, resulting in the tragic accident.
Confirming the grim occurrence, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that the incident took place around 4:30 p.m.
While expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, Odunlami-Omisanya urged individuals who have relatives that embarked on the Akure to Lagos journey earlier in the day to make inquiries about their well-being.
She assured the public that the bodies of the deceased had been transferred to the morgue, while the injured passengers were receiving medical attention at a nearby private hospital.
"As investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, we urge concerned individuals to reach out to their loved ones who traveled from Akure to Lagos this morning to confirm their safety.
