The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Emmanuel Okechuku Orjinze, a 48-year-old businessman en route to Paris, France, at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi reported that Orjinze, who claims to be a professional footballer in Europe, was arrested on May 21 during the outward clearance for Air France flight AF 878 from Abuja to Paris. Following his arrest, a body scan revealed he had ingested 111 wraps of cocaine.
Orjinze was placed under observation in the agency's custody, where he subsequently excreted the cocaine wraps over three days. The total weight of the cocaine was found to be 1.603 kilograms.
According to Babafemi, Orjinze stated that he is involved in the maritime business while also seeking opportunities with European football clubs. The NDLEA continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding his attempt to smuggle the illicit drugs.
