In a significant interception, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has prevented a 2kg parcel of cocaine from being shipped to the United Kingdom. The agency's Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement released on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
According to the statement, NDLEA operatives made the discovery on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the NAHCO export shed of the Lagos airport. The parcel, concealed within three out of six paint buckets labeled as containing shea butter for export, contained 8 parcels of cocaine weighing 2kg in total.
The freight agent responsible for the shipment, identified as Sonubi Mariam Abiodun, has been apprehended by NDLEA operatives. She faces charges related to her attempt to smuggle the illicit substance out of the country.
The interception underscores the agency's commitment to combat drug trafficking and prevent narcotics from leaving Nigerian shores. NDLEA continues to employ vigilant measures to safeguard against illegal drug activities, ensuring the safety and security of air transport operations in the country.
