
In a significant breakthrough, the Delta State Commissioner of Police Special Team, under the leadership of ASP Julius Robinson, apprehended a 52-year-old accountant of the Polytechnic, Oghara, Ethiope-West Local Government Area, identified as Chief Oviri Onorigho, at his residence on Friday morning around 11:30 AM.
Accompanied by members of the police force, the arrest was made swiftly, with the recovery of a Baretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition during a search of the suspect's residence. This development was confirmed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement released to the press in Warri.
"The suspect was immediately arrested," SP Edafe stated, highlighting the successful execution of a search warrant that led to the seizure of the illegal firearm.
Further investigation uncovered troubling details, as SP Edafe revealed, "Preliminary investigation revealed that he is suspected to be a member of Aiye confraternity."
The suspect, Chief Oviri Onorigho, reportedly admitted to purchasing the firearm for self-protection, claiming to have acquired it from an individual named Morrison, who is currently evading arrest. The transaction allegedly involved a sum of N250,000.
As the investigation progresses, Chief Oviri Onorigho remains in custody, facing charges related to the possession of an illegal firearm and suspected involvement in criminal activities. The arrest serves as a testament to the commitment of the Delta State Police Force in combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
