
In a startling development, the Delta State Police Command has apprehended a General Overseer (G.O) of a new generation church following an alleged attempt to kidnap a Bishop in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The church leader, identified as Bishop Godfrey, was taken into custody along with his wife, an Assistant Pastor, elders, and other associates. They are currently detained at the Ughelli Police A’ Division pending further investigation.
Police officials revealed that during a search of Bishop Godfrey's residence, authorities recovered 20 SIM cards and three army uniforms, heightening concerns about the nature of the alleged kidnapping plot.
The incident unfolded when law enforcement officers received intelligence about the planned abduction. The G.O reportedly fled to a hideout upon learning of his wife's arrest and the detention of others connected to the case.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, confirmed the operation, emphasizing that investigations are ongoing to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The arrest of the church leader and the recovery of military uniforms and multiple SIM cards have sparked widespread speculation and concern among local residents. The police have assured the public that they are diligently pursuing all leads to unravel the details of the alleged kidnapping attempt.
