Nigerian social activist Martin Otse, known as Verydarkman (VDM), has responded to his recent loss at the Trendupp Awards, where he was nominated for the ‘Force of Social Good’ category. Despite strong support from his fans, VDM did not win, with the award going to Tunde Onakoya for his Chess in the Slum initiative and his Guinness World Record achievement.
Following the announcement, VDM's supporters expressed outrage, claiming he was unfairly overlooked, while his critics mocked his loss. In a defiant video, VDM dismissed the controversy, emphasizing that his activism is driven by a passion for social justice rather than the pursuit of awards. He revealed that he was unaware of his nomination and shared an incident where he declined an award from Silverbird after they refused to pay him for his participation.
