The Ogun Police Command has arrested Adekunle Adebajo, also known as “Kunle Polly,” in connection with the brutal killing of a rival cult member in Ijebu Ode. The arrest follows a violent clash between rival cult groups on August 12, during which the victim, identified as ‘Mosquito,’ was killed.
Police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola reported that the incident involved a horrific attack where the victim was shot, macheted, and had his left hand severed by the attackers. Adebajo, a 34-year-old suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity, was apprehended at his hideout in Isiwo, Ijebu, following a distress call from a concerned citizen.
“The information provided by the public was crucial in tracking down Adebajo,” Odutola stated. “Our team acted swiftly, leading to his arrest. During questioning, he confessed to his affiliation with the Eiye Confraternity.”
A subsequent search of Adebajo’s residence uncovered a Beretta pistol with six live rounds, two UTC axes, and various charms. The investigation continues as police work to uncover the reasons behind the ritualistic severing of victims’ hands and to apprehend other suspects involved in the crime.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, assured the community of a decisive response against cult activities, promising that those responsible for the violence will face justice.
