Isa Muhammad Bawa, the kidnapped District Head of Gatawa in Sokoto State’s Sabon Birni Local Government Area, has urgently called on the state government for assistance, following the expiration of the ransom deadline set by his abductors.
In a distressing video that has recently surfaced online, the 74-year-old traditional leader, who has been held captive for 22 days, is seen in a bloodstained white garment with his hands bound. The video, which has drawn significant public concern, shows Bawa pleading for urgent intervention.
Aminu Boza, the lawmaker representing Sabon Birni in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, has verified the video’s authenticity, confirming that the individual in the footage is indeed the District Head.
In his emotional plea, Bawa addresses his relatives, well-wishers, and community leaders, saying, "Today is the final day. If they want to assist me, they should do so now. Even the bandits are tired; they have done their best, but there is no response from the government."
Bawa, who has dedicated over 45 years to his traditional role, expressed deep frustration over the lack of government response to his abduction. He, along with his son and younger brother, was seized by bandits on the Goronyo-Sabon Birni road while returning from Sokoto. Initially demanding N1 billion in ransom, the bandits later reduced their demand to N500 million.
