
In a significant crackdown on illegal drug activities, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ogun State have arrested a 70-year-old man, Fidelis Egede, along with three other individuals for allegedly cultivating cannabis. The arrests took place on Tuesday, August 13.
Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, revealed the identities of the other suspects in a statement issued on Sunday. The individuals were named as Samuel Sylvanus, 31; Jato Samson, 33; and Francis Blessing, 28.
The arrests occurred during a raid on a large cannabis plantation spanning six hectares in Alaka village, Ogun State. According to Babafemi, the operation is part of ongoing efforts to curtail the cultivation and distribution of illicit drugs in the region.
"The NDLEA operatives in Ogun State on Tuesday, 13th August, arrested 70-year-old Fidelis Egede and three others: Samuel Sylvanus, 31; Jato Samson, 33; and Francis Blessing, 28, during a raid on a six-hectare cannabis plantation at Alaka village," the statement read.
The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their involvement in the illicit drug trade. The NDLEA's crackdown underscores the agency's commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes in Nigeria.
