In a significant crackdown on criminal activities in Taraba State, a suspected kidnapper was apprehended while praying inside a mosque in Takum town. The arrest occurred on Friday during the Assar prayer at the Takum Central Mosque, according to local resident Dauda Mai Dawa, who spoke to *Daily Trust*.
The same day, security forces arrested 13 other suspects along the Takum-Maraban Baissa road. These arrests were part of a broader operation by the Nigerian military and other security agencies targeting criminal activities in the region.
In a related development, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of the Chief of Chanchangi Chiefdom and his son was also captured by troops of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with other security forces. The joint operation led to the arrest of 15 additional suspected kidnappers and the recovery of various arms and ammunition.
Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Oni Olubodunde, confirmed the arrests, stating that on August 18, 2024, troops conducted a raid on a criminal enclave in Takum Local Government Area. During the operation, a suspected kidnapper identified as David Musa was detained. Preliminary investigations revealed that Musa is an associate of a notorious kidnap kingpin known as Ephraim, alias "Skin the Body."
In a subsequent operation on August 20, 2024, troops apprehended two suspected gunrunners, James Nuhu and Dan-Asabe Ango, in Wukari Local Government Area. Under interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in multiple criminal activities in Wukari and its surroundings. They also identified one Ibrahim Philemon as the group's armourer, responsible for storing weapons and managing the proceeds from their illicit activities.
These arrests mark a significant step in the ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and related crimes in Taraba State.
