The Lagos State government has intensified its crackdown on public defecation, with 20 individuals arrested for the offense over the weekend. The arrests were announced by the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed that the offenders were apprehended during patrols conducted by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI).
According to the Commissioner, some of the arrests occurred late Saturday night, while others took place in the early hours of Sunday. Wahab, sharing the development via his X handle, emphasized the government's commitment to enforcing environmental laws. "During patrol and monitoring of Ojodu-Berger yesterday night and early hours of today, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial arrested 20 individuals for committing environmental infractions," Wahab stated.
The recent arrests follow the establishment of a dedicated task force aimed at curbing open defecation across the state. This initiative is part of the Lagos State government's broader strategy to maintain a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for its residents, reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy towards public defecation.
