Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staged a peaceful protest at the Edo State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on September 22, 2024, leading to significant traffic disruptions on the Benin-Abuja highway.

Demonstrators occupied the roadway while security personnel formed a barrier outside the INEC office, which was heavily fortified in anticipation of the protest. The supporters raised concerns over the election results, which currently show the All Progressives Congress (APC) leading based on reports from 17 local government areas.

Protesters claimed that the results announced by INEC were manipulated and did not reflect the actual votes cast at polling units. One participant, Frank, expressed his frustration, calling on President Bola Tinubu to investigate the alleged discrepancies.

“We will not allow anyone to tamper with the wishes of the Edo people,” Frank asserted. “People voted for our candidate, and we will not accept any attempts to alter those results. We possess the authentic results, and what has been announced differs significantly, indicating foul play.”

Frank appealed for presidential intervention, warning that further unrest could harm the state. “Some individuals should not jeopardize our peace for their own gain,” he added. The protest underscores ongoing tensions surrounding the electoral process in the region.
