The Lagos territorial office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has successfully repatriated 180 Nigerian nationals who were previously stranded in Libya. The agency made the announcement via their official X (formerly Twitter) account on October 3, 2024.
The returnees, who arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on the evening of October 2, were comprised of 67 females, 55 males, 24 female children, 18 male children, and 16 infants. NEMA confirmed their safe arrival around 7:30 PM aboard a charter flight operated by Al-Buraq Airline.
The official statement read: “In continuation of the voluntary evacuation of Nigerian nationals from Libya facilitated by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the NEMA Lagos Territorial Office and other stakeholders received a batch of 180 returnees on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.”
Upon arrival, the returnees underwent biometric profiling conducted by the Nigerian Immigration Service. NEMA and other government agencies provided essential humanitarian support to ensure that the returnees were well taken care of and received necessary items to meet their immediate needs.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts to assist Nigerians in distress abroad and facilitate their safe return home.
