Halima Hassan, the mother of the late BBNaija star Rico Swavey, recently opened up about her struggles with grief and mental health following the tragic loss of her son in a 2022 car accident. In an emotional conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she shared how deeply Rico's passing has affected her, particularly as it marked the loss of her second son.
Halima expressed how difficult it has been to cope with the overwhelming pain, admitting that she has been grappling with her mental health since the tragedy.
She revealed her intense longing for Rico, confessing that she sometimes wishes he could come back, even if it meant he would be in a coma, as long as he was still alive.
To cope with her loss, Halima said she kept Rico’s memory alive by displaying his pictures throughout her home and talks to the photos everyday, sharing her plans and thoughts with him before leaving the house.
“It wasn’t really easy for me at that time, I wasn’t really myself. All I wanted him to do, whether he was a vegetable or he’s not a vegetable, let him just come out.”
“When he passed on, why I requested to stay with him at that very moment, I said to him ‘the music that you could not bring out, I will help you bring them out, I will do the remaining work for you, I’m not going to let your hard work just go like that.
“I still have Rico’s pictures all over the house. Every time I look at him, I smile and I say ‘Rico it’s another day for me, I’m going out today’ and I will try talking to the picture to tell him all my plans for the day, then I’ll leave. I say my prayers every morning, tell God to give me the courage to move on with my life”, she said.
