A devastating road accident along the Sagamu-Ogijo Road in Ogun State has resulted in the deaths of a young couple and a 44-year-old man. The victims, identified as 25-year-old Moses Ekpolo, his 19-year-old wife Josephine, and Kolawole Moshood, were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The fatal incident, which took place around 9 PM on Thursday, involved multiple vehicles, including a Foton truck (registration number EKY 778 XM), a space wagon car (AM 299 AHD), and a Bajaj motorcycle (JGB 265 WG).
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun Police Command, provided details about the crash in a statement released on Sunday. She attributed the accident to the reckless behavior of the truck driver, who reportedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with the motorcycle from behind, causing it to crash into the space wagon simultaneously.
"The collision occurred near Lafarge Company on the Sagamu-Ogijo Expressway. The truck driver, whose identity is currently unknown, veered out of his lane, leading to the tragic outcome," Odutola explained. "Moses Ekpolo was riding the motorcycle with his wife, Josephine, when they were struck."
Both victims and Moshood, a passenger in the space wagon, suffered critical injuries and were immediately transported to Idera Private Hospital in Sagamu, where they were declared dead shortly after arrival. Their bodies have since been moved to the Idera Mortuary in Sagamu.
In light of the incident, Odutola issued a stern warning to drivers of articulated vehicles to adhere to safety regulations and urged all road users to maintain a safe distance from larger vehicles to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
