The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, three points and three goals after the disrupted 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya. This decision solidifies Nigeria's position at the top of Group A, bringing their total to 10 points from four matches, four points ahead of their nearest competitor, Benin.
Libya, on the other hand, finds itself at the bottom of the group with only one point. Following this ruling, the Super Eagles are now in a strong position, with a draw against Benin in Abidjan next month sufficient to secure their qualification for the AFCON, which is set to take place in Morocco in December 2025.
In addition to the points awarded to Nigeria, CAF has imposed a $50,000 fine on the Libya Football Federation, which must be settled within 60 days of the official notification of the decision.
