Former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has reportedly been placed on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) watchlist as part of an investigation into financial irregularities during his tenure. This development includes a travel restriction to ensure his availability for questioning. The EFCC is probing allegations involving questionable contracts and significant withdrawals from state accounts, including the diversion of N26.6 billion in funds.
The investigation has already led to the arrest of several high-ranking officials from his administration, such as the former Accountant-General, who are accused of facilitating suspicious transactions
Governor Obaseki has expressed a willingness to cooperate with the investigation, though no direct links to the allegations have been established against him yet
