A heated confrontation erupted at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Iloye, Sango-Ota, Ogun State, between Prophet Abiodun John, the church’s founder, and Badiru Folarin, a local commercial driver, over a deeply controversial paternity dispute. The scandal, which involves an illicit affair between the pastor and Folarin’s wife, Morufat, was exposed by Folarin’s 14-year-old son, Saheed.
The dramatic incident unfolded when Folarin, enraged after learning of the affair, confronted Prophet John, who controversially claimed to be the biological father of Folarin’s four-year-old child. The affair, which allegedly began years ago, was revealed when Saheed disclosed to his father that Morufat had been frequently visiting the pastor, cooking for him, and even receiving late-night visits from him while Folarin was away.
Folarin, a Muslim, shared how his wife’s regular absences from home under the guise of church activities raised suspicions. According to him, his son’s revelation about his mother’s involvement with the pastor sparked a confrontation that led to a series of shocking admissions.
"My wife has been using the money I give her for upkeep to prepare meals for the pastor," Folarin said. "I never suspected the pastor, but my son made me realize what was happening." He further accused the pastor of using spiritual manipulations to distance his wife from their family. The driver also revealed that his wife had received large sums of money for the family’s needs, only for her to spend it on her pastor-lover.
In a dramatic twist, Morufat, when confronted, expressed her preference for the pastor over her husband, despite admitting to the affair. She claimed that Folarin was an irresponsible husband and asserted that she would not leave the pastor, even as she stated she could not be married to both men. "I can’t live with a man who doesn’t care for me," she said during the altercation.
Folarin, however, rejected any reconciliation, telling his wife, "You cannot return to my house." The shocking accusations continued to pour in as Folarin revealed that his wife had even aborted a pregnancy for the pastor in the past.
Meanwhile, Pastor John, in his defense, admitted to a 20-year-long affair with Morufat. He confirmed that he had fathered her sixth child, a claim he supported by stating he had been actively involved in her life, including financially supporting her children and assisting with medical needs during her pregnancies. He dismissed any shame regarding the affair, stating, "I am the real father of the child, and I will not deny it."
The affair, which has rocked the community, has left Folarin in a state of disbelief, as he fears for his safety, accusing the pastor of making threats against him. In an emotional appeal, he stated, "Nigerians should save me from this ruthless pastor."
The case has drawn attention to issues of trust and infidelity, with the entire saga now under scrutiny by both the community and the authorities.
