On December 14, 2024, during the sixth day of the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s Holy Ghost Congress, themed *Onward Christian Soldiers*, Pastor Enoch Adeboye took the congregation on a reflective journey through the extraordinary transformation of Redemption Camp.
Speaking to a captivated audience, Pastor Adeboye shared the remarkable story of how a small, desolate patch of land, once plagued by highway robbers and dangerous wildlife, became the thriving spiritual hub known today as Redemption Camp.
He recalled that the camp began on a mere two hectares of land, a place once infamous for criminal activity. "I was just a little above 40 years old when we came here," Adeboye said, recounting the early days of the camp’s establishment.
He compared the challenges faced by the church to the story of the Israelites, highlighting the early struggles they encountered, including stumbling upon discarded suitcases and personal items left by the victims of robbers. Despite the harsh conditions, including a prevalence of dangerous pythons that were regularly found and killed on the grounds, the faith of a few remained unwavering.
Pastor Adeboye also shared a chilling tale of a tree that local villagers feared, believing those who cut it would die. “Many years later, nothing has happened to those who cut the tree,” he said, emphasizing the power of faith over superstition.
In his address, Adeboye expressed deep gratitude for the elders who played a pivotal role in the camp's early years. “Don’t look down on elders,” he urged. “They labored with me when we had nothing. They fetched firewood, dug holes for water, and worked tirelessly to make this place what it is today.”
He encouraged the younger generation to honor and learn from the elders, emphasizing that their wisdom and experience could not be replaced by seminary training.
Pastor Adeboye also took a moment to reflect on the unprecedented achievements of the church, particularly the choir, which he described as incomparable. "Where else can you find a father in the world who has a choir like ours?" he asked, eliciting applause from the congregation.
In closing, Adeboye urged the congregation to embrace their youth with faith and determination. “If the enemy can’t stop your father, he can’t stop you,” he declared. “Let’s take over the world for Christ.”
As the Holy Ghost Congress 2024 draws to a close on December 15 with a grand thanksgiving service, attendees left with renewed strength, inspired by the story of Redemption Camp’s transformation and the power of unwavering faith.
