The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has refuted claims circulating in the media that the Port Harcourt Refinery, which resumed operations in November 2024, has been shut down. In a statement released today, the national oil company assured the public that the newly rehabilitated refinery remains fully functional.
Reports suggesting that the refinery, which began operations on November 26, had ceased activities were dismissed as false by NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye. According to Soneye, preparations for daily loading operations are currently underway at the facility.
“The attention of NNPCL has been drawn to reports in a section of the media alleging that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery, which was re-streamed two months ago, has been shut down,” Soneye said in the statement. “We wish to clarify that such reports are totally false, as the refinery is fully operational, as confirmed a few days ago by former group managing directors of NNPC.”
The company also warned the public to disregard the misleading reports, attributing them to individuals attempting to create artificial scarcity and exploit Nigerians.
NNPCL’s statement comes amidst concerns over fuel supply and scarcity across the country, with the company reiterating its commitment to ensuring the continued functioning of the refinery.
