The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued a pastor and his wife, who were kidnapped by suspected criminals while engaged in a prayer session at a remote mountain in the state.
The incident, which occurred during the couple's visit to the isolated location for religious purposes, led to panic as fellow worshippers fled the scene. The police reported on their official X handle on Tuesday that the couple was taken by the kidnappers, but were later freed during a rescue operation.
While specific details of the operation remain under wraps, the police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators. In the same breath, the police also paraded other individuals suspected to be involved in criminal activities.
Authorities have issued a stern warning to the public, advising against visiting isolated areas due to increasing security risks in such locations.
“The command has successfully rescued the abducted pastor and his wife from an isolated mountain area where they were fellowshipping. This resulted in other worshippers fleeing in fear. Investigations are ongoing, and we are committed to bringing the criminals to justice,” the police statement read.
