A Nigerian man living in the United Kingdom has reportedly been arrested following a false rape allegation made by a female colleague after he rejected her romantic advances due to his marital status.
The incident, which has sparked outrage on social media, was shared on X (formerly Twitter) and quickly went viral.
According to the man’s account, he noticed that his colleague was attempting to push their friendship beyond professional boundaries. However, he made it clear that he was married and not interested in a romantic relationship.
Unwilling to accept the rejection, the woman allegedly approached their manager and falsely accused him of rape, leading to the suspension of both employees in December.
The situation escalated last month when the woman provided a video statement to the police, reaffirming her claim. This resulted in the man’s arrest. However, he was later released on bail pending further investigation.
His ordeal was made public through a post by a third party, who shared his statement:
"I have an issue concerning a false allegation made by a white colleague at work. She wanted to escalate our friendship into a relationship, but I distanced myself because I’m married. She then went to our manager and accused me of rape, leading to our suspension since December.”
"Last month, she recorded a statement for the police, repeating the allegation, which led to my arrest. I was released on bail and told to report back at a later date."
"My employer sponsored my Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), which I used to bring my family over. I need advice on how to clear my name from this police case."

As the post gained traction, social media users expressed their concerns, offering legal advice and words of encouragement.
Meanwhile, the case has raised serious questions about workplace misconduct allegations and the potential consequences of false accusations. Authorities are expected to continue their investigation to determine the truth behind the claims.
