Renowned journalist and publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has stirred controversy with his remarks on Nigerians who choose to relocate abroad despite having millions in their accounts.
In a recent interview with comedian and talk show host Teju Babyface, Momodu dismissed claims that relocation is the solution to financial struggles. He argued that anyone with between ₦30 million and ₦40 million who still considers themselves poor is being irrational.
“If you have that kind of money and you say you’re poor, then something is wrong somewhere,” he said.
The media mogul further challenged the popular “Japa” movement, insisting that with such funds, individuals could establish successful businesses in Nigeria instead of seeking opportunities overseas. He refuted insecurity as an excuse, referencing how Americans remained in New York despite the 9/11 attacks.
“If food and security are your concerns, you can even provide your own security here. With ₦30 million, you can start a ranch, own cows, and take care of yourself,” he added.
Momodu’s comments have sparked debates on social media, with many Nigerians weighing in on whether financial stability alone is enough to discourage relocation.
