Manchester City striker Kelvin Etuhu has been jailed for eight months for a drunken street brawl which left a man with a broken jaw.
Kelvin Etuhu has made four league starts for Manchester City
Etuhu, 22, attacked Owen Fitzpatrick following a dispute in a casino cocktail bar, Warrington Crown Court heard.
He was caught on camera kicking the victim three times on the ground after he floored him with a punch.
The fight broke out after two groups of clubgoers had earlier squared up in the Manchester 235 Casino in the early hours of February 28 last year.
Etuhu previously pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray and was sentenced by Judge David Hale at Warrington on Thursday.
Etuhu looked to the floor as Judge Hale told him: "You brought yourself up by your bootstraps, you and your family, having come here from Nigeria with nothing but your talent, grit and determination. That is a great credit to you and your family and you have blown it."
Earlier, the court was told Etuhu had been released from his contract at Manchester City, in part due to the criminal proceedings.
The defendant's older brother Dickson, who plays for Fulham, was sitting in the public gallery with their mother, another brother and relatives.
Peter Cadwallader, for the prosecution, said the violence resulted from a "very minor" dispute inside the casino which ended when Mr Fitzpatrick, 24, and two friends were asked to leave the venue.
The three men then waited outside for Etuhu and his friend Rico Richards, 27, to emerge. The footballer, who was drunk, came out of the casino a short time later, followed by sober Richards, and "completely lost the plot", Mr Cadwallader said.
Amid scenes of confrontation from Mr Fitzpatrick and his friends, Etuhu got out of his BMW, which Richards was driving, and launched the attack. The player felled Mr Fitzpatrick with a single punch and, when he was on the ground, kicked him three times and inflicted the broken jaw.
"Those kicks can be seen on CCTV and, in particular, the middle kick is a very hard kick," Mr Cadwallader said.
More violence followed, the barrister said, as Richards attacked Mr Fitzpatrick's friend Matthew Tryer, 26, and knocked him to the ground.
Mr Cadwallader said: "Mr Etuhu, extremely angry, goes toward Mr Tryer in aggressive fashion and at that point the girlfriend of Mr Etuhu came out of the casino. For her trouble, (Etuhu) pushed out violently towards her, knocking her to the ground."
Etuhu's girlfriend, who was not named in court, remained on the ground as the footballer and Richards drove off in his BMW, Mr Cadwallader said.
John Broadley, defending Etuhu, said in mitigation that the footballer had not gone out that night "looking for trouble".
"Whatever the minor dispute was inside the casino, the violence outside could not have been expected," he said. "Clearly all parties outside were 'up for something'. What took place was a disgraceful blot on Mr Etuhu's character. His brothers have seen the CCTV footage and are appalled and at a loss to explain it."

During his police interviews, Etuhu told detectives he had been "unusually drunk" that night.
Manchester City provided a reference for the player, Mr Broadley said.
"He has been released early from his contract with the club, and it is almost certain these proceedings may have influenced that decision," the barrister said. "The defendant, now a free agent, has been approached by other clubs and is clearly at a crossroads in his career."

The barrister also said he was not "typical" of other wealthy, young professional footballers. He added: "He has come from a difficult background but his mother has done a superb job at raising her children. He has no background of violence, no dishonesty, no trouble. He is unlikely ever to repeat this sort of behaviour."

Etuhu has contributed £30,000 towards his legal aid, Mr Broadley said.

The footballer is a graduate of the Manchester City academy and made 10 Premier League appearances for the club. His first senior City appearance was in September 2007 before being loaned out to Leicester City towards the end of that season.

He spent last season on loan to Cardiff City, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League. He has also been on loan at Rochdale.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Hale said it was his duty to speak out against cases of public disorder and violence.

He said: "Whatever happened inside the casino, it was trivial, it was half past four in the morning and it was time to go home. The others involved in this case took it upon themselves to wait outside and see if you came. You were in your car, you could have driven away.

"You, Mr Etuhu, decided it wasn't over and if it hadn't been for that, the violence would never have happened and you would have gone on with your lives. You completely lost it. Why else would you push your own girlfriend over and leave her motionless on the floor?"

Etuhu, wearing a white shirt and black suit and tie, was jailed for eight months concurrently for both offences.

Richards, from Longsight, Manchester, has a previous conviction for attacking three female and three male police officers after being stopped following a road traffic incident. The offences were three counts of wounding and three of battery, the court heard.

He was jailed for four years for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and six months, concurrently, for theft of a watch belonging to one of the victims. Richards was also ordered to serve six weeks in prison, consecutively, for failing to attend court on a previous occasion.

Manchester City is full of miscreants.
Last few Mario Balotteli kicked a fellow player on the chest and
here is this useless Etuhu with another blunder.

So sad to see him come close to trashing his career like that. Good thing he has no previous criminal record. Its most likely he will get out earlier for good behaviour. Young people with too much money to throw around most of the time find themselves in situations like this, I don't really think his behaviour that night has anything to do with the fact that he is Nigerian - he's just a 22yr old with too much money who thinks he is invisible. Please Naijapals give him a little break, they provocked him and he unfortunately fell for it.
