Why don't Best of friends make it in Romance?

Often a time, when a Boy and a Girl are best of friends, they start getting attracted to each other and soon before you know it they are in hot romance (love birds) around the place; Then in no distant time, you hear of their breakup. Now, Why do best of friends get into a relationship and everything suddenly go wrong, was there something they did not see as friends or something they did not get right?
