Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara, Mr. Abdullahi Lawal, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Gusau on Thursday that the police were on the trail of the robbers.
NAN learnt that Alhaji Hanafi Bakura, the chief driver to the commissioner of agriculture, was approaching Bakura at about 11.00 am on Wednesday when the armed robbers opened fire on his vehicle.
It was further learnt that three policemen, who were travelling with the late driver were also killed by the robbers during the attack.
On Tuesday, a gang of suspected armed robbery also attacked the deputy governor’s wife on Anka Road, where they shot and wounded her daughter, Fatima, and her driver, Abubakar Yahaya.
A police source told NAN that the deputy governor’s wife escaped unhurt but, her daughter and driver had gunshot injuries and were currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.
An eyewitness in a nearby village, Malam Ali Yusuf, told NAN that the suspected robbers, who wore masks and were on motorcycles, had ambushed the convoy and opened fire on the pilot car injuring the occupants.
Also, the Manager of the Ogori-Magongo Branch of First Bank Plc in Kogi State, Mr. Paul Serelous, and two cashiers, have been killed in an armed robbery attack at the bank.
An eyewitness told the NAN on Thursday in Lokoja that the heavily armed 12-man gang who came in four cars, attacked the bank on Wednesday.
One of the cashiers, Mr. Mohammed Amin, died during the attacks while his colleague whose name had yet to be ascertained, died on Thursday at the Okene General Hospital.
The witness said that some residents of the community also sustained serious injuries.
The witness, who pleaded anonymity, said that the robbers came to the bank at 5 pm and forcibly gained entrance, using dynamite to open the main gate and security door leading to the banking hall.
